Many states have already joined the fight. Lets do it nationwide!
SAN FRANCISCO In a groundbreaking end to its false advertising lawsuit against New York-based Hudson Valley Foie Gras, the national nonprofit Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) is celebrating the company’s decision to stop advertising its products as “humane.” ALDF  voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit after Hudson Valley Foie Gras–the largest foie gras producer in the nation—removed all references to “humane” foie gras from its website in 2013. Valley Foe Gras was force feeding massive amounts of grain to ducks to create swollen livers, then marketing them Foie Gras. They not only abused their ducks and ducklings, but violated State and Federal Laws of Unfair Competition and False Advertising.
ALDF and the Palm Springs Animal Shelter settled a lawsuit alleging extremely high euthanasia rates of adoptable animals, lack of veterinary care, and the misuse of the term, “no-kill” at the shelter. This settlement will bring the shelter up to an acceptable standard, quality care, and accountability a priority.
Colorado judge sentenced a 73-year old animal abuser to nine and a half years in prison for poisoning two neighbor dogs with strychnine-laced meatballs. Animal Legal Defense Fund assisted the local police department with the case and helped ensure the criminal prosecution of felony aggravated animal cruelty and witness intimidation charges.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund submitted a complaint to the FTC challenging very deceptive animal welfare claims, regarding Tyson Foods and their chickens. Through their efforts Tyson made substantial changes to its website after the complaint was received. They now know they are being watched very carefully.
There are more than 5,000 community animal shelters nationwide that are independent. There is no national organization monitoring these shelters. The terms “humane society” and “SPCA” are generic; shelters using those names are not part of the ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States.

It is so very important to know who you are donating your monies too! Where do they go and what program are your donations funding. Are they a non-profit (501C3) and registered.  Many, that I have researched were in that 5000 and not being monitored and yet associated themselves with the Humane Society or other organizations.  ADLF, I know can and will do what is necessary to prosecute and close these non monitored shelters, due to their abuse and                                          neglect.
